There once was a gardener who went out to his garden one day and noticed that weeds had taken over his garden overnight. He really wanted the best for his garden and he knew what needed to be done to fix it, so he went ahead and began to do all he knew how. He began at the nearest edge picking out the weeds from among the vegetables, but by the time he got a few feet deep into the garden the weeds at the closest edge began to grow back. You see, while he was focusing on fixing the next step, he couldn't keep watch over what he did in the first place. Only God can really take the weeds out of our garden. By God's Spirit, they are uprooted and our garden is maintained beautifully. The gardener will get nowhere on his own, but with God's Spirit, his garden will grow into exactly what God has designed it to be.
